Equations disabled on word 2013

So, i can't enter equations on Word 2013 because the equation icon on the insert tab has been disabled. The symbols icon works fine. On power point, its the other way round - equations work, but symbols is disabled.

Your document is probably in *.doc format (= the file format of Word 97–2003). Convert the document to the most recent file format (via File tab | Convert); then you can use Insert tab | Equation.
