EndNoteX4 problems with Onedrive and Word 2013

If I create a word document which is saved in onedrive, EndNote will not allow me to insert a citation - I get the error:

This method or property is not available because the drawing operation cannot be applied to the current selection

As a result I have to save the document onto my hard drive before I can insert a citation.

Can this be resolved?

Thanks

David

I don't think so, inserting or editing citation is supported in Word online.
The only option here would be is the work around of opening the document in Word app and then making the changes which you're already aware of.
Truth is still truth, even if you don't believe in it.

I was having the same issue with the same error message.

Then I checked some older documents that weren't originally in my onedrive to see if the citations there worked, since the documents were now in my onedrive folder too and I was worried all my citations would be messed up.

But the citations in those docs worked fine, and for some strange reason, when I returned to the new document with the initial issue, everything worked fine too. I can now cite normally. Not sure what happened, but might be worth a try...

Very oddly I had the same problem, am using Word 2013. When i saved it as .doc i was able to do the citation, but unfortunately was not able to resave the file as docx. Seems as if Endnote doesnt work with XML documents

Just had this happen to me. Saved as a 97-2003 document. Inserted the citation (which worked fine) and then re-saved as a docx (word document). Fixed the problem.

hi

i know this is a little old now but i had the same problem.

based on the reply by AnjaKraus, I opened an old document on my hard drive save a reference in that document. then returned to my original document which had been saved on Onedrive (note: i did not even need to close and reopen it).

I was now able to save the citations to this document without any problem. No idea why this worked!

Agree, just came across this with Office 365 - moved document from my OneDrive folder to my Dropbox one and all working again - frustrating but at least the workaround is fairly easy!
