Convert a document from RTF to Word and embed all images

Hi,

I have a document that has been created as an RTF output and images are not embedded (I have no choice on this initial output), they are essentially links.  If I try and convert the RTF document to DOCX and send the file to someone else, none of the images appear because the links are broken or not present.

Is there a simple/quick way to embed all images into the DOCX document without having to go through one by one.  There are 250+ images.

Thanks, Scott

Answer
Answer

Yes, you can do that.

  • Open the RTF document.
  • Click the File tab, which opens the Info page.
  • At the bottom right of the Info page, under Related Documents, click the "Edit Links to Files" line.
  • In the Source File list, click the first item, then scroll the list to the bottom and hold the Shift key while clicking the last item. All the items in the list should now be highlighted.
  • Click the Break Link button, and click Yes in the confirmation message box.
  • On the left side, click Save As.
  • In the dialog, click the Save As Type dropdown and choose the *.docx entry, change the file name if desired, then click the Save button.

Embedding 250+ images, if they're fairly large files (more than a few dozen KB each), is going to result in a very big Word file. Expect it to be slow to load and save, and maybe difficult to edit if that's necessary.
