All of our documents are opening in compatibility mode when edited and read only when double clicked

The computer in question is running office 2013, the documents were made in office 2013 however it is apparent that they were all saved in 07 format which I believe is why we are having the issues. How do I convert all of these files into the correct format so that they open and are editable in word. At the moment when you double click on a file it opens in "read only" and the document changes to WD000017 etc which means it cannot be saved immediately back to its location

Thanks in advance,

Laura

When you start a new document, does it display Compatibility Mode at the top of the screen?  If so, it would indicate that your Normal.dotm template is a carryover from an earlier version of Word.

If you open a document by using File>Open in Word, rather than by double clicking on a file, does it still open in "read only" view?

Under normal circumstances, documents created in earlier versions of Word (97-2003, 2007, 2010) that are opened from a trusted location, will open in a mode that allows them to be edited.

Under File>Options>Trust Center>Trust Center Settings there is a File Block Settings dialog by means of which, the manner in which documents from various versions of Word can be set.  Make sure that in that dialog, there is no check mark in the Open column for "Word 2007 and later Documents and Templates".

Hope this helps,
