ALL CAPS ribbon menu

What's up with the ALL CAPS menu choices on the ribbon?  What year is it?  Is it 1985 again?  Is Office 2013 designed to run on the Apple II Plus?

Seriously, Microsoft, if you were going to make an absurd, irritating design choice like this, at least give the user an option to get rid of it.  How hard would that be?

Is there an easy option to change this that I missed?

Answer

Believe it or not, the Microsoft Office design team thought they were doing something cool and modern by using all caps for the ribbon tab labels. Apparently they couldn't imagine anyone being so stuck in the past that they would want to change it. (The same people decided that you could only have blinding white, invisible gray, or almost visible gray backgrounds in the Office 2013 programs. You get the idea...)

Fortunately, some smart people figured out how to get back to upper and lower case. It's a little tedious but you should only have to do it once:

Open the Customize Ribbon page of the Options dialog. For each of the tab names, click it, click the Rename button, and type a space to the left of the name. When you've done them all, click OK.
