Accept All Changes, text disappears

Hello,

I have a Word document (docx) that exhibits the following behavior.  I open the file in Word 2013.  I see Track Changes is on, and the mode is Simple Markup.  I see a particular line of text that I had added to the file in my editing.  I select Accept All Changes and the line disappears.

I can supply more details if appropriate, but am I right in thinking that this sounds like a bug?  Thank you.

Mark
p.s. I saw the same behavior in Word 2010, so it is not a 2013 issue.

Are you the original author of the document? I tried to reproduce it on my end but does not seem to remove the line that i have created. Can you provide more details about the file.

In the "Simple Markup" view, Word only displays the changed lines. To see a full range of markup, choose "All Markup." If you still see the same in "All Markup," look at the settings for Track Changes. In Word 2013, click the dialog launcher button in the Tracking group on the Review tab, click Advanced Options, and then set the options that you want.

Thanks for your response.  No, I'm not the author, and the problem is very hard to reproduce.  So far I have seen it only with this file.  Weirdly, if I change the beginning of the file, the problem goes away (but it's still a bug; that's not a solution).

The file was generated by a client and now I am doing editing work on it.  I'm not sure what other details I should supply.  I ran "Inspect Document" and it shows that there are Revision marks, Comments, Document properties, and Author, but nothing else was found in the other categories.  "Properties" show that it's 49.3 KB in size, 33 pages, 3828 words, Template Normal.dotm, whatever that may mean.

Thank you but that is not really answering my question.  If I add text and it's visible in Simple Markup, should it disappear when I select "Accept All Changes"?

If I go to All Markup, then the text is underlined.  This means I added it.  It's a change.  So if I tell it to accept all changes, it shouldn't go away.

I would be happy to send this file to anyone who might be able to diagnose the problem.

Wait, you are saying that the actual text disappears? I thought we were discussing the markup (changed lines, colors, strikethrough, underline, etc.).

When accepting changes, you shouldn't lose inserted text (but you should when you reject an insertion, of course).

By the way, did you select Accept All Changes Shown or Accept All Changes in Document?

Yes, the actual text disappears.  In Word 2013, I selected "Accept All Changes."  Back in Word 2010, I selected "Accept All Changes in Document."  Same behavior in each case, the added text disappears!

I agree, I shouldn't lose inserted text, and my client was able to reproduce the error when I sent the file to him.  I would very much like to send this file to someone who can diagnose the problem.  Is there any way I can do that?

Thanks,

Mark

My guess is that the document is damaged. You can upload the document, or a smaller example version, to SkyDrive and link to it here. (Remove any sensitive information in the file.)

OK thanks.  Here is the link.

<edited out>

Here is what to do.  Scroll down to the last page.  You will see the following text:

The separation of English from other languages and literatures shows that

Notice that it is preceded (at the end of the previous page) by "Psychology," and followed by "Multiple Choice Items."

Now Accept All Changes, and you will see "Psychology" immediately followed by "Multiple Choice Items," and the line of text about the separation of English has disappeared.  Or at least you will if you get the same error I do!

Thanks for your help,

Mark

Hi, I uploaded the file.  Any idea why the text is disappearing?

Thanks,
