Hi Diane, thanks for the reply.
I am using (or trying to use) Office Professional 2013 - not 365 or any of the other ridiculous "subscription" based products.
When I click on any of the Office program icons in my desktop toolbar, when I am offline, I get the "click to run" icon temporary pop-up, attempting to stream via the net as the program tries to launch. Since I am not online, the "click to run" cannot connect
and thus stream, therefore the program will not launch and is unusable. It just sits there feebly attempting to connect and remains at 0% stream.
No issues whatsoever when I am online.
Would it not seem more practical for "click to run" recognising the difference of when a user is online or offline and carrying out any necessary updates/invade privacy the next time the user is online?
Cloud based products are good in some respects but have fatal flaws - whoever designs them sits in a nice office, surrounded by massive IT infrastructure. These program designers need to get out of the office and in to the third world, where a lot of first
world customers use their products when travelling for business.
I am not a big fan of Windows 8 - it appears to be much faster and slicker but if I wanted Apps I would have bought an Apple product (since they've been producing these a lot longer than Microsoft); and if I wanted garish colours and big program icons, I'd
have bought a nice little children's computer for under fives. I very rarely use the "Metro" start screen, I go straight to the desktop and simply use the computer like... a computer.
If this is the route Microsoft wishes to go down then fair enough, I will simply switch to Apple and do the job properly.
Thanks for your time.
Rant over.
;-)
