I made changes to a Wordpad document and 'saved' it. I then reopened the file and the changes had not been made

I made changes to a Wordpad document and 'saved' it.  I then reopened the file and the changes had not been made.  What did I do wrong?

Original title: Wordpad       

If you opened it from an email attachment, the changes would be saved to a temporary copy of the attachment, not to the original. The temporary file would then be deleted when you exit the email app.
