Word Table Layout Formula calculations - adding up negatives

I am using formulae in a Table Layout using the Formula tab and cell references like =(D10-C10)    I've got the Number Format working and it basically works but

a) the minus does not seem to work e.g I have a formula to calculate e.g. b8-c8, b9-c9, b10-c10 etc.. the results of each are in d8,d9,d10

I'm trying to add this up into a total in d12

This works fine until in the final sum formula using =SUM(ABOVE)   which is summing the results of other sums.  This basically works but ignores any negative numbers

My sense is that word does not allow a sum of formula to include negative numbers, though a sum of cells can work correctly taking account of negatives

Any thoughts very welcome

b)also, F9 only works when cells are covered, not just when I click in a cell ?

I cannot replicate the problem here.  If you want to send me the document, I will investigate.

You can decipher my email address from my signature or obtain it form my profile.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for your reply about the duplicate formula in the adding up cell.  Having used Alt F9 I could see and remove it

However, as per the Excel just sent back, the issue of not taking account of negative numbers from a calculation in another calculation still applies .  I'll post my understanding of your replies here to help make the post useful for others

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the reply on using Ctrl-A + F9 then Print Preview to refresh the page fully.... In Office 2010 there is no print preview option so I cannot do this, I've tried dsipalying in print preview.. no effect.

Also, In http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/word-help/use-a-formula-in-a-word-table-HA102329800.aspx  they also say to Right Click the formula field.

So I'm still stuck on how to update the bottom right field above to it give the correct answer.

Help Doug or anyone else on what should be simple, or is this a word bug?

Tim

OK, Solved it, it seems that in UK at least, I needed to format the -ve results as being in (xx) rather than having a -x

The formula then works so sorted,

Thanks for sticking with it Doug

The behavior may be dependent upon the settings under the Control Panel>Region and Language>Formats>Additional Settings>Numbers and\or Currency.
