word could not create the work file. check the temp environment

I am getting this error when I attach a word file to my outlook email. I tried the recommended fixes but none of them worked. Last week I removed a program called Citrix because I didn't recognize it and I am wondering if this caused the problem. This problem just started recently. I am using home and student office 2010. I am using internet explorer 11 on windows 7.

For the error “Word cannot create work file. Check the temp environment variable.”, look though ALL of the information provided by fellow MVP Beth Melton in the thread at:

Thanks I was able to get to the site and I tried all these fixes but when I attach a word file to an email using outlook I am still getting the error message.

Did you make sure that the file wasn't open in Word before trying to attach it?

yes, the file was not open. It only happens when I use the outlook drop down that say to attach files. If I just drag the file into the open email I don't get the error.
