word 2010 shuts down when closing a merge document

 After complete a merge letter process and then closing the word document, Word sends a message that word must shut down; sometimes it also cites a long error message which includes this number: WRS{2C3R1DOE-CB66-45BC-A575-8B49FAC7AO72. Thanks. Roland Casad, Oregon

What type of data source are you using to create a merge document?

Recreate the document and check if the issue persists.

 

You may also post the event log for the application crash, so that we could check what is causing the issue and assist you better.

Thank you Deepa. My response follows below:


Q:  What type of data source are you using to create a merge document?


A:  The data source is an address list created in Outlook 2010, called Allen Marine


Q:  Recreate the document and check if the issue persists.


A:  Yes, it persists; Word says that it must shut down when I attempt to simply close the merge document.


Q:  You may also post the event log for the application crash, so that we could check what is causing the issue and assist you better.


A:  Yes I have found it, but I am unsure how to post it to you Deepa; I have not used the viewer before. But let me know with a little more explanation, and I will figure out how to provide what is needed.

You can copy paste the event viewer logs related to Word crash in your reply which would include faulting module and other information about crash.

Are you executing the merge for Outlook or from Word.  If the latter, try initiating the merge from Outlook.

Thank you Deepa - Also, I have tried to open the merge docs from the Outlook side; the system freezes with a small message captioned "MS Outlook", and reads "Opening and verifying document file...." The little blue rotating timing circle just continues; I have to use Control-Alt-Delete to get out of the freeze.

Thanks Doug - Yes I have tried to open the merge docs from the Outlook side; the system freezes with a small message captioned "MS Outlook", and reads "Opening and verifying document file...." The little blue rotating timing circle just continues; I have to use Control-Alt-Delete to get out of the freeze.

Try the steps below and check if it helps:
Export the contacts to an Excel file and then try to merge through Excel and check if it works.

 

If it works fine then create a new profile for Outlook and import the contacts that you have in the Excel into Outlook and then try to merge from Word, check the result.
