Word 2010 Heading/footer wanted only on first page

I am creating a newsletter with a header and footer on the first page.  I do not want the header and footer to be shown on following pages.  I just want it shown on the first page.  I clicked on the Odd and Even page but the header and footer appeared on the 3rd page.  How can I turn off headers and footers for all subsequent pages?

Check the Different First Page setting just above the Different Odd & Even Pages box. You'll now have the header and footer on page 3 (and all later odd pages) but not on page 1.

Cut the header text from page 3 and paste it into the header on page 1.

Cut the footer text from page 3 and paste it into the footer on page 1.

Now uncheck the Different Odd & Even Pages box. Your header and footer will now appear only on page 1.
