Word 2010 crashes when printing

I have just added a dell 3100cn printer to my computer and Word crashes every time I select the printer.  I can't even get to clicking the print button as it crashes once this printer is selected form the drop menu.  My default printer (RICHO) works fine and change the Dell to the default doesn't help.  It appears to crash all Office applications, our computers are connected to a domain server.  I am running Windows 7 and Office 2010 Pro.  The printer opertes fine on our other machines running XP and office 2003.

Any thoughts on what to try next and how to do it?

You may download and install the latest printer drivers for the printer to check if it helps or you may also contact the printer manufacturer to update to latest printer drivers as you are using windows 7.

Try checking for automatic updates and see if it makes some difference with new updates.

Check the link below for information on compatibility of printer with windows 7:

The printer hardware is not the issue. Have you installed the correct version of the printer driver for Windows 7?

As graham points out, this is the printer driver. The Dell 3100 drivers have always been problematic, but I understand that the latest driver is suppose to be compatible.

If you are using EndNote X3 and lower versions with Office 2010, this will cause Microsoft Word to crash.  The plugins / add-ins are incompatible with the new Microsoft Office 2010 Suite.  You will have to remove it and uninstall the application.

I would highly recommend replacing it with EndNote X4 or greater.
