Problem in Cross-Reference

Previously, my List of Tables look like this:

Table 1.1  list of A's

Table 1.2  list of B's

Which, no problem in applying cross-reference.

And current, my List of Tables look like this:

1.1  list of A's

1.2  list of B's

by applying PamCaswell solution here (thank you)

unfortunately for the current setting, i cannot insert cross-reference for Only Label and Number, as is I'm inserting the Entire Caption. How can I insert cross-reference for Only Label and Number using the current applied Caption..??? Please help, thank you.

I hope I am understanding your description correctly, as it is a bit sparse. If I have misunderstood, give some more examples of what your captions look like, and what you want the cross-references to look like, but how they are incorrectly turning out. That will help.

Let me first explain what I believe is causing what I believe is your problem, and then offer two solutions. Unfortunately, both will require a little manual word.

Essentially, when you add a cross-reference, Word adds a hidden bookmark to the item you are referencing, and then creates a cross-reference to that bookmark.

So, you could add your own bookmark around just the text you want in the cross-reference, and then create the cross reference to the bookmark, not the caption.

If you wanted to, you could look at my Word uTIlities (http://insight.trueinsight.za.com/word/word-utilities) which contain some bookmark management tools. The Bookmark manager will allow you to find the bookmark in question (just select the whole caption, and open the Bookmark manager) and then also to reposition it (select the text you want to appear in the cross reference, and then use the Reposition button). Just beware that creating a TOC or list of tables adds additional bookmarks, so make certain that you are adjusting the right bookmark, as there may be several. If you want to make dead certain, click on the existing cross-reference, and then press Shift+F9 to see the hidden bookmark's name.

Let me know if that worked, or if I have misunderstood your problem.
