Path cannot be used for 'security reasons'

I have a networked drive (mapped to S:) where I keep most of my files.    I'm running Windows 7 and recently started using Word 2010.

I want to make my networked drive "trusted" so I don't have to "enable editing" on my Word files.     "Allow Trusted Locations on my network" is checked.   In the Microsoft Office Trusted Location dialog I've checked "Subfolders of this location are also trusted"     But regardless of whether I use the drive letter S:\  or the folder path, S:\SharedFiles, I still get the same error message - "the path you have entered cannot be used as a trusted location for security reasons. choose another location or a specific folder."

What exactly does this mean?     I've seen all sorts of discussion on the web about this with people trying various folk-remedies like using UNC paths, editing the Registry, running word "as administrator", etc.   Some of them seem to work for some people and not others, or not work at all.    I'm sick of playing games -  where does Microsoft document these things?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you.

Those forums look like they're for  IT pro's.   I posted a question there anyway but I only got one response which wasn't helpful.

THIS forum is for Office on Windows 7 and that's what I'm using.  So I think this is the right forum.

Yes, this is a reasonable question for this forum, but since it is so technical, technet may be better., specifically because IT pro's are the most likely people to have this sort of information close to hand or in their heads because they have direct experience with your problem.

Often the sort of information you are looking for is typically not documented anywhere in public locations, which is why you need input from technet participants.

There is a chance your information is located in a web based article such as blog entry or KB article BUT good luck finding it.  Use Google and Bing advanced (and other search engines) searches using many variations on search terms. Try using the built in search windows on the MS KB article site (it uses Bing).
