I need to print this off, as I using a separate machine. I am also using a mail merge field to do calculations based on the 1st September.
So, somthing like this i guess:
if month(dob) <9 then year(current) - year(dob),else (year(current) - year(dob) -1
I am guessing I have to do insert-->quick parts (formula) cntrl f9 for mail merge fields.
Thanks
Russell

For an If...then...Else field construction in Word, you must use CTRL+F9 to insert the field delimiters, and you separate the condition and the True and False results by a space, not with commas.
If there are spaces in the results, you need to enclose each result in double quotes. While that is not necessary if there aren't any spaces, it does not hurt to use double quotes anyway.
You should also have a space either side of the operator "<" in your case.
Use ALT+F9 to toggle off the display of field codes.
