In Word 2010 can I detach quick access tool bar of permanently view multiple rows of the bar at same time.

I hate the ribbon and would like to use only the QA toolbar, which has too many icons to be viewed in 1 row.

Answer
No you cannot detach the QAT.

There is an option to display it below the ribbon. That provides room for a few more icons.

I do not see any way of enabling it to display more than one row of icons (nice design choice). I assume you have seen the double arrow button that temporarily displays the "overflow" buttons.

You know you can also create a "custom" tab with all of the commands you want on it. It displays in up to 3 rows of icons deep. You do not have the option of controling the icon size. If you create it with only one group you can maximize the number of commands displayed.

You also have the option of "hand coding" the XML for a new tab. Then you would have control over the icon size displayed.
