How to underline text in header or footer...

Can anyone tell me how to place a single bottom border to text which must be right aligned in a header please?  I've gone into Insert tab and gone into Headers, and say I want to choose the first one "blank".  I have tried using tab to move the text to the right and I have tried to right align the text to get it where I want.  Then when I've gone into borders, and chosen insert a bottom border, it unlerlines the whole of the area even where there is no text.  Can anyone show or explain how to do this properly please?  Many Thanks.

Answer
Don't use the building blocks. Select Edit Header.

Where do you actually want the border?

If you only want a line under the text, how about Underline?
Type the text and click Right Align from the Home tab and Underline (select text and Ctrl+U).

If you want greater separation, insert a table in the header (at least two columns). Make the right column the width that will fit both the text in question and the lengthy of they border. Apply a bottom border to just that cell, and no borders to the other cell.
