How to stop Word 2010 document spreading across two monitors

I started using a second monitor two months ago so that I can go back and forth quickly between two or more Word 2010 documents. The only hiccup has been a frequent tendency for a file to suddenly and spontaneously spread across both monitors, forcing me to drag the right side back so that it is contained within one monitor. The same file will subsequently re-spread at some point (sometimes when I open a new document), forcing me to again drag back.  Is there any way to stop this happening?

Are you perhaps using a touchpad?

I do this all the time in Excel (mostly) and haven't had such a problem

Thanks for your reply. Alas, I had seen the question and reply you referred me to before posting my question; when I followed the steps recommended in that advice I found that the box 'Show all windows in taskbar' had already been checked.

No, I am using an ordinary mouse on my desktop computer (2 years old), Windows 7. The main monitor is a Samsung (purchased 2 months ago) and the smaller second monitor is LG (purchased about three  years ago). My IT help desk suggested I check if I need updated drivers for the monitors and also a VGA driver but I have not looked into that as yet.

hi again,

In my first reply I mentioned that my IT help desk suggested I check if I needed updated monitor/VGA drivers. I have now checked and the ones I have are the latest.
