How do I get rid of the opaque background when I want to use a signature in a Word document?
How do I get rid of the opaque background when I want to use a signature in a Word document?

You could locate the image behind the text or, use the free Irfanview graphics program and save the file in GIF format as when doing that, you can set the background to be transparent.

png format will also allow transparent backgrounds.

I scanned the signature on white paper and saved it as a jpeg file.  When I opened it on word I get the whole page with the signature.  How do I isolate just the signature to put in a word document?

You will need graphics editing software, such as IrfanView which Doug suggested, to crop to size, to make the background transparent and to save as PNG format (or GIF)
