greyed out "text to table"

I am trying to convert a listing in Word to an excel table but it is greyed out.  please help!

If you want to use mail merge, you need the list to be vertical in Excel.

Use the Text to Table feature in Word to convert the list to a table and then select that table and copy it to the clipboard and then paste it from there into your Excel worksheet.
