Formatted 2007 Word file opens in Compatibility Mode in 2010

Every time I open an 2007 Word Doc in 2010, it opens in the Compatibility Mode. It is already .docx and has not special add-ins not styles. It has Auto outlining, some bolded and underlined text, Headers and page numbering footers. No pictures, tables, or anything inserted. The doc was originally created in 2003 than converted to 2007. It has been edited several times with 2007.
Answer
Answer
That's correct. Word 2010 has two "Compatibility Modes", one for .docx documents created in Word 2007 (or based on templates created in 2007) and one for .doc documents from earlier versions. The main difference is that 2010 won't let you use features in those documents that aren't supported in the earlier versions. An example of that is the Text Effects button in the Font group of the Home tab in 2010, which didn't exist in 2007.

If you want to remove the Compatibility Mode, open the document in Word 2010 and then click File > Convert.
