Finding the total number of edits to date

I am in the midst of editing  a long manuscript using Word 2010's great editing tools. I caught a glimpse of a summary of the total number of edits made to date, but have been unable to re-access it.  How did I (accidentally) do it please?!
Answer
Answer
That's the Reviewing pane, which displays tracked changes and comments. On the Review tab of the ribbon, click the Reviewing Pane button (in the Tracking group) to turn the pane on and off. You can also click the down-arrow next to the button and choose whether to display the pane vertically or horizontally.

The Reviewing pane shows the number of changes only when you have Track Changes turned on while making the changes. If you don't know much about Track Changes, read http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/trackchanges/HowTrackChangesWorks.html.
