Error: WINWORD.EXE - Ordinal Not Found 9298 oart.dll

Hello:

When clicking on the pinned winword.exe icon located on the taskbar, the following error message is displayed:

WINWORD.EXE - Ordinal Not Found

The ordinal 9298 count not be located in the dynamic link library oart.dll.

OK

However, when right clicking on the W pinned icon and the Pinned and Recent list populates, when selecting a Pinned document MS-Word spawns without incident.

Additionally, when navigating to Start/All Programs/Microsoft Office 2013/Word 2013 executes as expected.

UPDATE:  Since I already typed everything I need to update my question as I just now realized the problem mentioned above is for Microsoft Office Word 2010 and the pinned version of WinWord is the 2010 version.   The error only occurs when attempting to run Microsoft Word v.2010, but 2013 is just fine.

I suppose all of this is now moot, however does anyone know why MS-Word 2010 is failing with the above error?

Thank you very much.

Eric

Hi Eric,

Let us try to open the Word 2010 application from the Program Files location and verify the results. Browse to the following location (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14 or C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14). Double click on the Winword.exe to open them.

If issue persists, repair the Office 2010 installation and then verify the results.

We are seeing this as well, we are deploying Office 365 and leaving it side-by-side with Office 2007.  When we launch the Word 2007 shortcut it results in this error and triggers a repair.

This is not acceptable because when it repairs, it hi-jacks all the file associations for office documents, then requiring a repair in Office 365.  Is there a way to determine why its doing this, and prevent it from happening?  We can reproduce this issue consistently.

Hello Levi,

From the description, it looks like you are having issues with Office applications on a network/domain environment.

If that is correct, I would recommend you to post your query at the Office IT Pro forum for better results.
