Error! Not a valid embedded object. when I try to insert a .wmf file as clipart

I am running Windows 7 with Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010.

I may have changed some settings when I was trying to find and delete a virus from my computer recently.

I get this error when I try to insert clipart from Microsoft Online:

Error! Not a valid embedded object.

I have emptied my temporary internet files and made sure the folder is moved to the correct location.

I have run a repair on my Office software...

I am having the same trouble in Publisher - however, I only get a blank box and an error message when inserting it.

HELP PLEASE!!

Could it be my firewall?

Answer

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft Community. As I understand you are facing issues while inserting .wmf files as clip art in Word and publisher. Don’t worry I shall help you with the issue.

Try the below steps and check if it helps:

  • Log in as an Administrator and go to Control Panel, Internet Options, General, Settings
  • Move Folder to move the cache directory from C:\Windows\Temporary Internet Files to C:\Documents and Settings\<administrator's username>\Local Settings and verify the result.

If the above step fails, create a new user account for Windows and check if the issue occurs in there:

If you need any further assistance reply and we will be glad to assist you.

Thanks.
