Delete a folder.

I am currently using Microsoft Word 2010 and have the following problem.

In my document library I have a folder showing that I do not know how to get rid of. After I have completed a backup I always get a message telling me to check my backup results and come across the following message:-

Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Users\ALAN\Documents\Alan Documents\Alan Cooper. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002))

It also shows as this if I go to my documents.

Is there any way I can delete this from my pc ?

Although this folder appears in your Documents folder, the problem really has nothing to do with Word. The tools to troubleshoot belong to Windows.

The most likely explanation is that there's an error in the file table on the C: drive, which tells Windows that there's a folder "in name only" but no address on the disk that corresponds to the name. Windows has a tool for finding and fixing such errors.

  • In Windows Explorer, right-click the C: drive and click Properties.
  • Go to the Tools tab of the Properties dialog.
  • In the "Error-checking" section at the top, click the Check Now button.
  • In the small dialog that opens, check both boxes ("Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors") and click Start.
  • Because the C: drive contains Windows, the tool can't check the drive while Windows is running. A message box will appear to ask whether to run the tool the next time you start the computer. Click the "Schedule disk check" button.
  • Close all dialogs, and restart the computer. The disk check will run before Windows reappears, and it will display its results in white text on a black screen like old DOS. Depending on the size of the disk and the number of errors found, expect the check to take 10 to 30 minutes.

Have followed instructions, well documented by the way, will run backup and see if this solves the problem.

Hopefully will not get this flagged up again.

Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Users\ALAN\Documents\Alan Documents\Alan Cooper. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002))

Will let you know if successful.

Have just run backup and the problem was flagged again as :-

Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Users\ALAN\Documents\Alan Documents\Alan Cooper. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)

This obviously did not resolve the problem. Do you have any other ideas I might try?

I should have looked at Google before replying (and you could, too...). Here are some promising leads:

Or stop wasting time with Windows Backup and try Macrium Reflect.
