Question

Windows 7, Outlook 2010, cannot add Contact Folder as an email address book.

Hello

I have Windows 7 Home Premium and recently upgraded from Office 2007 to Office 2010.  When I compose an email address in Outlook 2010 I am unable to see the email addresses of my contacts.

I have gone to Contacts, Properties, and tab 'Outlook Address Book'.  I see the option 'Show this folder an e-mail address book' but it is greyed out so I am not able to add my contact folder as an email address book.

I have already run SCANPST to fix any errors with my mailbox/contacts.  It did not help.

Does anyone know how to add a Contact Folder as an email address book in Outlook 2010.

Thank you

MrP.

Answer

You'll need to make a new profile as you can't add the Outlook Address Book service in Outlook 2007 and 2010.

See Contacts are missing when you click the To button for more info and link to a tutorial for making a new profile.

Thank you for the quick response and the link.

The link says goto Tools | Email Accounts.  I am unable to find the Tools menu in Outlook 2010 with Win7.

I have gone to the Account Settings and the Address Book tab and can see two address books listed.  Mobile Address Book could be removed but with the Outlook Address Book the 'remove' option is greyed out.  I cannot delete my Outlook Address Book.

All good advice much appreciated.

Thank you

MrP.

When you can't delete the address book, you need to make a new profile.

Hello,

I am having this problem as well. Using Windows7 32bit with Outlook 2010. I am using the full version of outlook - not the virtual version. I followed youf instructions and deleted my mail profiles. Then I created entirely new profiles, but in the new profiles the contact folders still have the "Show this folder as an email address book" option grayed out and unavailable to check off. Is there anything that needs to be manually deleted? Is the corrupted profile inherent in the .PST and .OST files I have for my Exchange and POP accounts. This is really frustrating not be be able to use my contacts to send emails.

State the steps you used to create and configure the new profile and migrate your data to it. You're doing something wrong but it's hard to know what without knowing what you're doing. Make sure the new profile has a unique name and that you did not transfer data by importing or using Windows Easy Transfer.

The right way is to make a new profile on the new computer. You can let Easy Transfer move the files or move them yourself - seehttp://www.slipstick.com/config/move_outlook.asp for steps to do it yourself.
