Question

Publisher 2010 paragraph formatting line spacing wrong

In Publisher 2010 the line spacing within a paragraph is irregular - even with fixed line spacing in the paragraph. The next-to-last and last lines of each paragraph are further apart than the others. How do i fix this?

Hi Adj,

If you use an 11pt font and your line spacing is 1sp (for example), change 1sp to 13pt instead, it will take that extra space out between the last two lines of your paragraph. I don't know why but when you use points instead of spaces... it seems to get rid of the problem.

Are you pasting the text from another source? What are your paragraph settings? Have you tried to paste as unformatted text?

No, I am typing in directly. But I have tried pasting from another source as unformatted text, and the same effect occurs.

I am also experiencing the same issues; I'm using Publisher 2003.  Any suggestions?

Do you have images? What sort of wrapping are you using? Are you using shift+enter? Turn on Special Characters (¶), it could tell you something.

Select all your text, Format, Paragraph, is your line spacing 0pt? Is there a spacing number in the *between lines?*

No images

This is inside a textbox - there is nothing to wrap round. The textbox is much bigger than the individual paras.

No I am not using shift+enter,

Turning on Specials shows nothing unexpected,

Line spacing is 1sp, if I make it 0pt unsurprisingly it rejects it! but the value is the same for the whole paragraph and for individual lines - even the wrongly spaced ones.

Font size is 12pt throughout (Gill Sans MT)

I have the same issue. Every once in a while, the last line of a paragraph has paragraph spacing between the 2nd to last line and the last line. It's very annoying and I don't see a way to fix it. I have 0 sp between lines and 6sp between paragraphs. The only thing I've found that works is to use 0 sp for paragraphs and add empty lines between paragraphs.

If you hit the enter key at the end of the last sentence you will get a new paragraph and the 6 sp at the end.  Try ending the last sentence with a period and  NO  enter key.

Also, I forgot to mention:

Bring the bottom of the text box up tight to your last line of text.  I f you leave the box long there will be white space below the text.  The only time I leave the text box long is at the bottom of a page so the last line of text is not at the bottom of the screen.  With a little white space at the bottom the text is easier to read (for me anyway).

Thanks, ZSpike, but I think you may have misunderstood: the extra space is NOT AFTER the last paragraph; it is BETWEEN THE LAST TWO LINES of every paragraph. As radiobb has also found: "between the 2nd to last line and the last line". Spacing after a paragraph wouldn't be a problem.

I would happily post a picture, but I don't know how.
