office 2010 starter download

Applies To: Office | Office 2010 | Installing and Activating Microsoft Office Products | Windows 7

A new dell laptop came with Office 2010 starter, after formatting the hard drive for 2 partitions it is no longer available. Dell support cannot help as they say "this is a free product from Microsoft and only they can help"

I still wish to use this starter product even with its ads and limited functionality!

Please provide help to install this product!

There is no download available for Office starter. Office starter comes with the computer.

I accidentally uninstalled Microsoft 2010 starter off a friends new Dell laptop. And then spent the day trying to figure out how to fix it.

Is there any way to put it back onto the laptop?

Only if Dell offered restore options. This might mean that you'll have to do a full reset of the computer.
A thing you can try before doing that is to do a System Restore to a point in time from before you removed the software.

Personally, Microsoft should offer support.  If you order from Dell, HP, etc.. which the average consumer is going to do, one does not have the choice of whether or not they want Office 2010.  The starter version is forced upon the consumer/OEM by Microsoft. 

As far as I know there are still issues with uninstalling Office 2010 starter.

Starter is OEM and Dell is legally responsible for this because of that.

I'll search on the Dell website as well in that case.

It will not be on their website. Support will have to deal with this. Dell are fully responsible for OEM, just like the preinstalled OS on the system.

Hola Ron y Raymond, Soy de Argentina y me pasó lo mismo "Compré mi notebook a Dell con el Windows 7 Home basic y el Office 2010 Starter".  Pero, lo más interesante fue que no vino el medio (CD/DVD) del Windows 7 ni el Office Starter.  Me quise comunicar con un número gratuito de atención al cliente y ninguna respuesta; así que fui al chat de dell.  Luego de que "ellos" decías todo que no, comencé a mencionar las legalidades de mi país y que si en uno de los manuales de ellos figura que "se debe insertar el disco del sistema operativo para reinstalar en caso de ser necesario" ellos deberían enviarlo en el paquete.  La conversación la realicé el sábado 14 de agosto; hoy 19 de agosto recibí mi disco del Windows 7 Home Basic de 64bits.  Pero...

.... en referencia al office 2010 starter me dijeron varias cosas en diferentes lugares: 1° que es de prueba por 60 días; 2° que es de prueba por 30 días; 3° vía teléfono del soporte técnico:  que no llevan medios y que es gratis, continué protestando y me cortaron la comunicación luego de hora y veintitres minutos de pasarme entre diferentes operadores.  4° un señor muy amable me dijo: el Office 2010 Starter viene preinstalado con restricciones de uso y que ante cualquier inconveniente que debiera re-instalarlo, ellos lo hacen mediante su sistema de servicio técnico o, que me convendría instalar el OpenOffice.org.

Así que, me reí, le agradecí su atención y le comenté que utilizo el OOo. desde el año 2002 cuando se llamaba staroffice.

Les comento para que se rían un poco:  Esta última máquina "Inspiron15" la compré para una amiga que algo conoce de Windows;  en cambio yo poseo una Vostro 1520 que vino con Windows Vista y bajada a XP, pero... la formateé toda y tengo instalado el UBUNTU 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

volviendo al tema, fui al soporte de Microsoft para TI y ensambladores OEM:  solo ellos pueden bajar el programa del Office2010Starter.  Y aun cuando dice que son los ensambladores los que deben dar apoyo y asistencia técnica, NO LO Realizan!!!.  Los de Dell dicen que debe hacerlo Microsoft (mediante un pago que en Argentina es equivalente a U$S50,00).
