When you install Office 2010 you may get error 1936 or 2908. I got this and finally found a simple solution:
Download and install latest .NET!!!
You can find it here:

So you have no other Office versions installed and you want to install
a purchased Office 2010 version?
Perform a clean boot and try to install Office 2010.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium on a Acer 1410 that I've been trying to install Office Professional Plus 2010 for days, trying every fix I could find. I was getting installation error 2908. Pressing ignore a bunch of time ultimately resulted in error 1935 and a consequent rollback of the install.
Following a Visual Studio installation error thread, I was finally able to determine the cause. C:\Windows\servicing\TrustedInstaller.exe was missing as determined by trying to run the command sfc /scannow and getting "Windows File Protection could not initiate a scan of protected system files." error.
I was able to get another copy of TrustedInstaller.exe from an equivalent laptop and restored the file. This wasn't easy either - I had to change ownership of the C:\Windows\servicing folder to the Administrators group before I was able to copy the file into it.
After restoring the file and rebooting, I removed .Net Framework 4 with Add/Remove Programs and rebooted.
After reboot, I installed latest .Net Framework 4 and rebooted again.
After all this, I was finally able to complete Office install - Woo Hoo! At least I didn't have to reload Windows...
I suspect that my anti-virus software must have thought that TrustedInstaller.exe was a virus and deleted it - I found that issue in other googling.
Glad to know that you fixed the issue and thank you for sharing the solution with us. It will help other community users in a great way.
I'm also getting this error but installing the latest .NET doesn't fix it for me.
Here's the background:
- Installed Win7 x64 on a new machine
- Installed Office 2010 Plus
- Installed a couple of other apps I needed
- Ran flawlessly for 2 days
- Came to work one morning and PC wouldn't boot to Windows. Investigation showed the registry was corruptted somehow.
- Restored to an earlier version and everything booted fine.
- Reinstalled all the apps that disappeared (Except Office)
- Worked flawlessly for a week
- Needed Office, found it wasn't there so reinstalled, install failed with error 2908.
Since then I've tried to install it quite a few times. I ran a "Fix It" for Office 2010 that I found on a knowledgebase article on microsoft.com that referenced a similar problem. I've ensured that Office is not installed. Office is not in the registry under HKLM/Software/Microsoft or HKLU/Software/Microsoft. Latest .NET is installed.
Can anyone else offer any other advice? I'd prefer not to have to reinstall everything from scratch...
I tried this plus Windows Safe mode start up as recommended by someone else and nothing has worked.
Microsoft techs are telling me to reinstall Windows 7 OS (which came with my desktop - I do not have an installation disk - only System Recovery) but I will loose all of my work previously created with Office 2007 (which no longer works either as a Microsoft Tech deleted it from my computer when he was trying to install Office 2010.) HELP and thanks so much.

I have exactly the same problem: I am not able to install office 2010 on a windows 7 machine x64 and I spent already many hours working on this issue....
I am also missing the trusted installer (C:\Windows\servicing\TrustedInstaller.exe), where can I get it?
Thanks.
I just got Office 2010 today. I get the same pair of errors. 2908 that stopped the installation, then 1935 after the rollback is done.
I have the Trusted Installer file. I uninstalled the .NET, rebooted, reinstalled .NET, rebooted, and still get these errors.
I have Win7, 64-bit. Anything else I can try?
Oh ____, I can't even get Office 2007 back on my PC! I get same error! I need Word and Excel for my classes! Why can't MS stuff work like it should!
Help!
I have Win7 64-bit, and avast antivirus. I previously was successfuly using Office 2010 Beta, but was told it needed to be uninstalled as it was expiring and to install Office 2010. Now i get the error 1935 Installation failed with assembly component {89EDD3A9-944B-3257-8484-D6EB6A00DDF5} HRESULT: 0x8007002.
I see that i no longer have the Trusted Installer.exe on my laptop.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall .Net Framework 4.
I am not interested in completely reinstalling Windows, i dont see why i have to put up with such an inconvenience if the office beta 2010 was running on my computer fine.
What steps can i take to fix this issue and install office 2010? Is there any way of obtaining trusted installer.exe?
I just want to install office 2010, help.
I just had a 4 hour interaction with Microsoft support and we failed to install MS Office 2010.THe advice provided was to find the reinstallation disk of Win 7 and take it from there.
I am not satisfied with that solution, it presents a lot of downtime given all teh backing up. What i don't understand is that if people are able to find copies of a "Trusted Installer" file and then sort themselves out with the uninstall and reinstalling of the .net framework 4.0, then why can't microsoft provide a patch of some kind that deals with the trusted installer issue more seamlessly?
Given my starting point was a reasonably smooth PC that was running MS Office 2010 Beta, i find this to be a real let down.
Sorry but neither of these links was successful for my problem. I tried to download each of the links and they both failed and rolled back.
I tried to reset my entire brandnew laptop only 3 days old incase any of the windows office programs that I had uninstalled in preparation for installing Office 2010 were needed to facilitate the loading of Office 2010. Even trying to reset the system only succeeded in removing a few non-essential programs I had downloaded from the web. It did NOT reinstall the various microsoft files/programs etc that i had uninstalled on the first day. I have tried almost every suggestion shown in this forum and STILL nothing! I believe I still have the Trustedinstaller.exe needed.
My next question...should I turn of the security program while trying to install Office 2010? It seems silly but I am open to all possiblities at this point. Like most of the others here I have tried this at least 7 times now and am fast loosing patience!!!
