word vs works

When I open up word documents sent via email, they open up into works word processor and thus, i lose all the formatting. how can i get these documents to open up into word as they are supposed to do?
You have MS Word installed, and file associations for both doc and docx are set to Word?

First, not in answer to your question, do NOT directly open documents sent by email by double-clicking on them in the email. Instead, save them to your hard drive, to a known location, and open them there. Failure to do this will result in lost work, sooner or later.

To have a double-click on a .doc or .docx file automatically open in Word you can re-register Word. Under the Start menu in the search box, type the following:
winword.exe /r
and press Enter. Note the space before the slash.
