Office configures repeatedly

Having upgraded to Windows 7 Professional, I am still using my old Office 2007 software. When I open Word 2007 from the desktop shortcut, it always opens the configuration process despite having been through the process initially and have repeated it many times. How can I get directly into Word  like I use to? It does not go through the configuration process for other Office software - just Word.

Locate winword.exe in explorer (The Office Folder) rt click, select run as admin. See if that helps

Follow the manual method in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2528748 but as you are using Office 2007, you will have to change the command to:

reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1

Hope this helps,

Thanks but it hasn't made any difference. The problem now applies to Excel 2007 so it's probably an Office 2007 problem.

Many thanks. That has solved the problem with Word 2007. But not Excel 2007. Is there a similar registry amendment for Excel?

Yes and it solved the Word configuration problem. I now need a link and registry setting to correct the Excel problem.

Many thanks but although Excel now comes up straightaway, a box saying "stdole32.tlb" comes up. When OK'd, it still goes through the configuration process. Is there a file missing?
