MS Word 2007: No option for Duplex Printing on HP 6280 (Duplex) printer

Hi:

I am using MS Office 2007 with an HP laptop and an HP 6280 All-in-One, printer/scanner/copier.

This printer has 2-sided printing: both, automatic and manual.

After re-installing the printer software suite (driver, etc.) , I am not able to print 2-sided using Word.

When I try to print a document, The Print dialog box is not providing the option in the

drop-down menu for automatic 2-sided printing.  It allows only manual 2-sided printing.

In the Print dialog box, there is no Automatic option to select from the drop-down menu.

If I open Apple's iTunes and want to print info about an App, 2-sided printing works correctly.

Automatic is selected from the Print > Properties > Print on both sides drop-down menu.

I have looked at the Word Options > Advanced inside of Word.

Its Print section selection have check boxes for

  • Print on front of the sheet for duplex printing
  • Print on front of the sheet for duplex printing

I am not sure what these mean: isn't duplex printing 2-sided ?

What purpose do these two check boxes serve ?

The printer does not print 2-sided whether or not these boxes are checked.

Now:

If I open a new document, I do not see any other check boxes, settings, etc. for 2-sided printing.

If I open an old document, under Word Options > Advanced > When printing this document,

I see in the drop-down menu selection, that  HP 6280 2-sided print option not available

If a select All New Documents from the drop-down menu, it reverts back to HP 6280 2-sided print option not available

There are only two selections available in the drop-down menu.

Any ideas on what may be  preventing me from having the option for automatic 2-sided printing ?

Thank you

DaleB

When you are at the print window in Word 2007, what happens when you click on the Properties button. The dialog below is for my duplex printer. There is nothing on the dialog that indicates duplex except a checkbox for manual duplex. Yet the ability is there.

When I click on the Properties button, I do get the choice. This is provided through the printer driver.

I have not looked into the page setup options you mention, I think the printer properties is what you want.

You reinstalled the printer software from HP support site?

If you start Word Pad, can two sided be configured in its print dialogue?

Hi:

In Word, I have a document open.

When I select File > Print, I get a Print dialog box.

In it, I click Properties.

A printer dialog box opens where I can select/change choices from various headings.

One heading is Print on both sides.

It currently has a drop-down menu with the following choices:

  • Off
  • Manual
  • Left Edge Booklet
  • Right Edge Booklet

The choice that is missing is Automatic, and this is what my Print on both sides default settings has been in the past.  It was set by default...I didn't have to select it each time I wanted to print.

The problem is that it is not even showing up in the list shown above.

Thank you

Hi:

I cut & pasted a 2-page Word file into Word Pad and Notepad and tried to print.

For Word Pad and Notepad,

In Printer Preferences, one heading is Print on both sides.

It currently has a drop-down menu with the following choices:

  • Off
  • Manual
  • Left Edge Booklet
  • Right Edge Booklet

The same problem occurred...no option available to select Automatic 2-sided printing.

Thank you

What you see there is based on information supplied to the application by the Printer Driver.

The following is the information from the User Guide for the 6200 series printers from the HP website:

To print on both sides of the page

1. Load paper into the input tray.

2. On the File menu in your software application, click Print.

3. Make sure the HP All-in-One is the selected printer.

4. Click the button that opens the Properties dialog box.

Depending on your software application, this button might be called

Properties, Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.

5. Click the Features tab.

6. In the Paper saving options area, from the Two-sided printing drop-down list,

select either

On or Automatic depending on your software.

7. Click OK, and then click Print or OK in the Print dialog box.

Have you followed the above instructions?

Hope this helps,

Hi:

Yes...I have done these steps.

Under the 2-sided printing drop-down list, there are only two options:

Off and Manual.    The is no option for Automatic.

I have owned this printer for more than six years, so I know that it has automatic 2-sided printing.

Somehow, this option is not getting "loaded" in with the Print dialog box.

Thank you

As I said, what you see is based on the information provided by the Printer Driver, which may have become corrupted.  Try downloading it again from the HP website.
