Microsoft Word 2007 - Margins appear to stay at the default setting inherited from the Envelope Add In ?

Hi,

Typically, I usually add the envelope to the document I'm working on, only because it's easier to be cognizant of what will print and when.

For some reason, (I think since my upgrade to Word 2007 from 2003), the Margins used for printing are inherited from what I had set for the envelope?

I have been googling around and have not seen this issue documented anywhere?

Can anyone assist in what might be wrong?

If I delete the envelope from the document, the document prints as I expect it to.
If the envelope is with the document, the document is literally truncated as if there was an imaginary margin there.

Thanks for any assistance in advance!

Are the documents you are having problems with created in Word 2003 or in Word 2007?

The envelope wizard creates envelopes as a separate section before the letter and margins are a section property. So, it makes sense that deleting the envelope (and its section settings) prints the way you expect.

Are you saying that when you simply print the entire document, you have this problem? Or, are you trying to simply print a part? If the latter, what steps are you taking?

Hi!,

Original document probably was from 2003.
It's been converted.

I didn't use an envelope wizard.

Yes....typically how I print, is I put in an envelope for the envelope and then expect the letter to print.
Which, does print, but, to the margins specified with the letter.

Thanks!

The only way you normally get an envelope added to a document without a lot of manipulation is to use the Envelope wizard. It might be called something different or look like a button.

What happens if you create a new envelope in Word 2007?

Unfortunately, same issue exists.

I deleted the existing envelope.
Saved the document.
Initiated the Envelope Wizard.
Same problem.

The letter appears normally, but at print time, it prints with the same setup as if it was printing an envelope.

Just tried a new test.

Started a new document from scratch.

Copied the letter's content in.

Used the Envelope Wizard.

SAME Issue ?!?

Has to be something that got hosed up from 2003 to 2007.

Sorry to hear about your difficulty. I have not heard of this problem in the years since Word 2007 came out and imagine that I would have if it were a bug in the program.

Although I have Word 2007, I have never used it for production work. I waited for Word 2010. I did not and do not care for 2007. That said...

Try copying the content of the old letter as plain text and reformatting.

Do you have your document in print view? What do the envelope and letter look like in print view when you still have the envelope as part of the document?

What happens if you print to pdf?

When you changed from Word 2003 to 2007 did you also change operating systems or printers?

Hi,

Plain text copy, tried reformatted from scratch, no difference.

Yes, Print preview they appear as they should, no issues.
Only issue is actual print version.

PDF - No issues, appears as it should.

OS - No.

For some reason I can't seem to attach the pdf to this reply, it states it is an invalid document type.
So, perhaps I need to expand my knowledge on how attachments are handled.

...lol

You would be able to attach as a zip file.

I suspect your printer driver. Check with printer manufacturer for updates.
