Extensions: Office 2007 documents

I have Windows XP and MS Office 2007. When I open word, excel and wordpad documents 

they open with an extension .docx, xlsx and .txt 
When I save these documents another file opens beside them named -----

-.temp. How can I open documents without the extensions?

As per the description provided, it looks like you are trying to hide the file extensions of the Office files.

 

To resolve the issue, let us enable the option Hide extensions for known file types in the Folder and search options and check. For more information on the same refer to the following artiocle and check if it helps:
