Changes to Word Templates are not saved.

I have created a template for a report form.  When I make micro-adjustments to this the style settings in a document I use

Styles --> Modify --> New documents based on this template - Paragraph etc. to make the change.  When I save the document I get a dialog asking if I want to save the changes to the template and I select "Yes'.  However, Lo and Behold!  When I start a new document with that template the changes are not included in the new document.

I have never had this before.  What can have changed?

Just to be sure we are on the same page:
Template = a special Word document created using SaveAs to save in .dotx or .dotm format

The query you are receiving from Word could indicate the default normal template rather than your specific template. Is your document "attached" to your template?
You can see what the attached template is by clicking on "Document Template" on the Developer Tab.

Yes, it is attached.  The document was created by the usual

Office Button --> New --> Recently Used Templates

process.

OK

Don't know what could be happening. Until someone comes along with a fix, a work-around would be to use the Organizer to copy the revised styles to your template.

Verify that the template file has actually changed by looking at the file properties in Windows Explorer.

Thanks.

Let's hope Microsoft are eavesdropping like the NSA.

But let's hope they do something useful with the information.  :)
