I have an Excel 2003 spreadsheet. I have resaved it under a new name and under the new Excel 2007 file format. The titlebar still says [Compatibility Mode] after the file name.
How do I turn off Excel 2007 Compatibility Mode?
I've found that it only remains in compatibility mode until you re-open the workbook. I know it's a while since this was posted, but hope this helps someone!
Before uninstalling Excel 2007, consider to try the following steps:
1. Open Excel 2007 > click on the Office orb
2. Click on Excel Options > Save
3. Select ‘Excel workbook’ from the ‘Save files in this format:’ dropdown at the top
4. Restart Excel
Excel 2003 can also handle Excel 2007 files usingCompatibility Pack.
Yes, I tried this but it doesn't work and it still says "Comptiblity Mode". But then again, I come to realize that so many things in Excel 2007 don't work.
I'm now ensuring all of my Excel spreadsheets are in the 2003 file format so that I can uninstall Office 2007 and revert back to Office 2003.

Is it possible to install Office 2003 and have it co-exist with Office 2007? Or will there be a conflict because there are so many shared components??
I don't have time to deal with Excel 2007 anymore. I need a reliable and productive tool to work with to get my job done and Excel 2007 isn't it. It would be so great not to have to deal with the "RIBBON" anymore. I'm also weary of having to use Google to figure out where to find functions that have been moved.
Consider using the interactive command reference to get urself familiar with Office 2007, I too thought the same way as you did when i used Office 2007, later i found that it is much ser friendly that the ealier versions.

If I had a dollar for everytime someone said "I don't have time to deal with XXXX anymore. I need a reliable and productive tool to work with to get my job done" after poor and minimal attempts to troubleshoot an issue I'd be a rich man. If you car had a strange intermittent knocking sound under the hood, and the mechanic had a hard time finding the source, you wouldn't just go buy another car. Stop crying and use the ribbon till you know where they moved everything. You may like it after you learn something about it.
