file could not be found. check the spelling of the file name and verify that the file location is correct.

I recently UNinstalled a piece of software which was obviously linked to EXCEL (2007).  Whenever I attempt to open EXCEL, I get the error message noted above:

"[filename] could not be found.  Check the spelling of the file name and verify that the file location is correct."

Clearly, a command in the open execute command of EXCEL has not been properly deleted with the UNinstall of the software.

How do I eliminate this error message?

Thanks.

Answer

Try going to your Excel Options --> Add Ins and look in the list of Add-Ins to see if it is listed and checked and maybe commented as "missing" and uncheck that Add-In.

You get to Excel Options in Office/Excel 2007 through the Office button - then there's a small [Options] button near the lower right of the dialog that opens once you click the Office button.
