MS Outlook 2003 error 0xc0000005

I am unable to open MS Outlook 2003. On clicking the Outlook icon I receive the error message: 'The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application'. Please advise a fix. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6400 running Windows XP SP3.

Thanks!

Chris Jones.

Hi Chris,

As I understand you are unable to open Outlook 2003 application and receive an error message. Let me assist you with the issue.

Follow the steps mentioned and check if it helps:

Method 1: Try to reset the navigation pane and check:

·         Close Outlook.

·         Click on Start< Run.

·         In the Run windows type Outlook /resetnavpane.

Note: There is space between Outlook and /.

Method 2: Open Outlook in safe mode:

·         Close Outlook.

·         Press the windows key+R on the keyboard to open the  Run window.

·         In Run window and type outlook /safe

Note: There is a space between 'outlook' and '/'.

If the Outlook works fine in safe mode then the issue might be due to add-ins. In order to disable the add-ins follow the steps given below:

·          Click the Tools menu, and then click Options.

·         Click the Other tab, and then click Advanced Options.

·         Click Add-In Manager.

·         In the Add-In Manager dialog box, click to clear the check boxes for any COM add-ins that you want to disable, and then click OK three times.

·         Restart Outlook.

Thanks but neither Method 1 nor 2 worked (I noted the space after 'outlook'), I received the '0xc0000005' error message in both cases. As I am unable to open Outlook I cannot use 'Tools' to remove any add-in.

The 0xc0000005 error message appears to be a common problem, is there a generic fix?

Regards,

Chris.

Hi Chris,

Thank you for the reply.

Since the above steps did not fix the issue, create a new profile and check if you are able to open Outlook. Refer the link mentioned to create new profile:

Hi Anula

Instructions did not work.

When trying to create a new e-mail address to connect to Outlook.com which 'server type' should I select: HTTP (Hotmail) or one of the other options?

I am still unable to open my MS Office Outlook 2003. The error message states ' the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). What is preventing it 'initialize' and how do I fix this?

Thanks,

Chris

Dear MS Community members

I am still unable to use Outlook and still receive the error message: 'The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application'.

I have followed the advice provide in earlier responses but to no avail, I still get the same error message.

I now use Outlook.com but, of course, cannot access my MS Outlook archive of .pst files.

Any suggestions as to how I can access my mail archive and, ideally, start using MS Outlook again.

Regards,

Chris.
