Previous versions of Word for Mac used a Language Registry in the Office folder to set up tools to add furigana for Japanese language, including using format
commands. Both the Registry and the Format commands seem to be missing in the 2016...how can this be invoked? (Furigana are phonetic alphabet used to guide pronunciation of kanji ideographs borrowed from Chinese).
I don't think the Language Register is needed any more. After you set the language to Japanese in the Asian Languages part of Word Preferences and restart Word, you just go to Format > Asian Layout > Phonetic Guide.
