Hey MACPServes,

There isn't currently a way to do this straight from PowerPoint. If this is a feature you'd like to see in future versions of Office for Mac, be sure to send your feedback by clicking Help >Send Feedback... in any Office application or by clicking on the link below:

That being said, there is a workaround! There's an application on your Mac called Automator. It's designed to automate such tasks and PowerPoint has created actions to make this super easy. Here's how to do it:

  1. Inside your Applications folder, open Automator
  2. For the Choose a type for your document: prompt, choose Application
  3. In the search box, type Ask for Finder Items
  4. From the results, click and drag the Ask for Finder Items action to the workflow area on the right
  5. Under the Ask for Finder Items action you just added to the workflow, check the box for Allow Multiple Selection
  6. Next, type Create PowerPoint Picture Slide Shows in the search box and add that action to the workflow
  7. When you're done, the workflow should look like this:

  8. From the Menu Bar at the top, choose File > Save... and save the application in an easy to access location (the Desktop would be best)
  9. Double click on the application you just saved, choose the pictures you want to use and click Choose

Let me know if this helps!

PowerPoint Mac has features that PowerPoint Windows doesn't have and vice versa.

The ability to insert photo albums is one feature that didn't make it to Mac.

So Jim Gordon made it happen:

Or if you're a VBA tinkerer, this PowerPoint FAQ page has some PC-specific code that shouldn't be too hard to mold into MacGoodness:

Batch Insert a folder full of pictures, one per slide

Thanks for this tip.  I do have a question though.  How can I control the size and placement of the photo on the slide?  After my photos were imported, they weren't sized and positioned correctly.  When I import a photo in PPT one at a time, the photo automatically fills the full width (if it's a horizontal picture), and is centered vertically.  With this Automator app, there was about 1" of space on both sides and the top and maybe 2" of space on the bottom.  Did I do something wrong?

Hey CoachJB2U,

There's really not any customization to the script. It's an all or nothing type of situation.

If you would like to see options for the Automator script, I'd be sure to use the Feedback link in my first post to send your feedback to the product team.

Cody,

I was not thrilled with your suggestion about using Automator. It gave me the same sinking feeling I get whenever I'm asked to open the console or terminal. With a deadline in just a few days to put together 300 images for a presentation for more than 400 people, I felt motivated to give it a try.

It was easy! Of course your clear instructions helped immensely. It came together so quickly I am using the time saved (and then some) to write you this thank you.

I noticed that the pictures inserted without expanding to fill the entire frame (preferred). I assume this is a function of how the automated task was built. Maybe next time a will try to teach myself how to create a task from scratch so I can create them to my exacting specifications.

Thanks again!

Aaron

The add-in that Steve suggested does allow you to scale the pictures when you import them. See Step #3 in this instruction page:

http://agentjim.com/MVP/PowerPoint/InsertPicturePowerPoint2011HowToUse.html

The slider does not work smoothly, but it does work if you click into the slider bar.

I do not work for Microsoft. If you get a good answer, consider answering a question in return.

This really helped!  I always have wondered why MS Power point will allow multiple pictures to be imported in other versions, but not in 2011.  This worked perfectly!!  Thank you for the information.
