Outlook 2016 syncing contacts and calendars with iCloud

Gordon Duff asked on

I currently have Office 365 version 15.0.4753.1002 (my list of programs also shows Outlook separately with the same version number).

I want to sync my calendar and contacts with my iPhone and iPad and won't upgrade to Office 2016 until this process works.

Does iCloud play nice with Outlook 2016?

Now I have to figure out how I will know when the problem gets fixed.

Keep an eye on the iCloud website for an update as Apple need to update their add-in to make it compatible with Outlook 2016 (and also Windows 10 still isn't officially supported);

Hi Gordon,

I've downloaded iCloud 5.1 today and installed it. So far does it work and I could download my contacts, calendar to my Office 2016. I run a Windows 10 on my pc!

Good luck///Mattias S

You can try upgrading to Office 2016, as so far no issues have been reported with iCloud and Outlook 2016.

If I try upgrading and it doesn't work.  I can't go back as I understand it.

Therefore, I need some assurance that iCloud and Outlook are talking to each other.  There have been long periods in the past where they did not work together.

I upgraded to Office 2016 (Windows 10 desktop) and it all in itself works well, including Outlook.  HOWEVER, iCloud will now not sync Contacts/Tasks/Calendars and when I try to enable that option it just says that there is an iCloud for windows installation error.   No joy from Apple, of course.

There are major problems.  It just doesn't work with iCloud.

Best solution, and I'm using it, install companionlink on win pc where outlook is and sync to dejacloud ( see http://www.companionlink.com/).  Install dejaoffice (Apple iOS app ) and all outlook stuff is on apple device in dejaoffice app folder on pad and phone.

My web research indicates this may NEVER be fixed so I switched to Companion link now and am off iCloud but have my Outlook data on my Apple devices.

Jim,

I took a quick glance at dajaoffice.  It seems to have some nice features.  The documentation seems a little weak.  Other drawbacks, to me, are having to use an intermediary with the associated additional complications, and having to pay another $50.

I am stalling.  I may go away from Apple altogether.   Leaving Microsoft is not an option because of the other software I use.

Hi Gordon,

Agreed, the documentation for CompanionLink-dejaoffice is a little weak.  Took me a few hours of experimenting to get it right.  Long ago I had purchased Companionlink 4 and set it aside when Outook-iCloud sync worked.  Knowing the company was still around and improving their product left me more comfortable going with the current version, Companionlink V7.

During my experimenting I became worried about loosing my PC Outlook data so I found a solution for backup that looked good and I bought it.  Seems very thorough in how it operates and the learning curve to run it is zero and just slightly longer to explore its feature.  I started with the freeware version for about 1 hr and then I went ahead and purchased the full version as I have two profiles I was backing up.  Here's the link:

http://www.mobackup.com/

I did investigate other Outlook sync solutions, besides Companionlink, to substitute for the inoperative iCloud.  There were some that didn't require an intermediary but setup was more complicated than I wanted.

One nice thing is that if you sign out of iCloud on your PC (for me that was W10 Pro), and you are using O2013 or O2016, iCloud asks if you want to keep a copy of the iCloud data on your PC.   The first sign out dialog read like you will loose all your data but clicking yes gets you to the 2nd prompt which lets you keep a copy in Outlook called Outlook-from iCloud.

Nevertheless, using mobackup makes this sign out less worrisome.

It doesn't work.  I keep getting an error code of 2343 when trying to install icloud on my pc with Office 2016.  Save yourself time and trouble.  Don't download Office 2016 until you are sure they are compatible.  Otherwise you will have to access icloud separately for who knows how long!!!
