Announcement: Welcome to the updated Office forum

Effective September 10th, Office, Office for Mac*, and Office 365 for business* forums are consolidated into a new, single Office forum category. We are excited for this change to further simplify community support for all Office customers, regardless of version or subscription method. Besides the forums consolidation the forum topics within the Office category were organized first by services, applications, and key topics, next by platform or device, and finally by Office version.

When I click on an e-mail in the search result list, the focus moves there then instantly moves somewhere else

ukayer asked on
When I click on an e-mail in the search result list, the focus moves there then instantly (you see the dark blue highlight) and then moves somewhere else (the e-mail you did have in the preview pane is replaced by wherever the focus moves).  The only workaround I have found so far is to click on the search result I want several times until it stops changing.

Thanks for your patience. We just shipped an update this morning where this issue should be fixed. Can you please try it out and post back if you run into any issues?

You can get details about our March update here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3038443

Thanks,

Thanks. This definitely improves matters. I have noticed the deletion delay but filtering now works.

Create a new user account on Mac. Setup the email account on the New Outlook 365 for Mac and check how the search works.

I'm not sure how that would help.

I have figured out under what conditions the cursor moves.

a) add a search term, e.g. "from:steve"

b) the results list now contains a mixture of read and unread items from Steve.  The unread ones have a blue highlight on their left hand edge.

c) click one of the read items and the highlight stays where you put it and the preview pane shows the selected e-mail

d) click on an unread item and the preview pane changes, but the highlight moves to the top of the search result list and the content of the preview pane changes

e) you have to click again now the e-mail has been marked as read to be able to read it.

Do you see the same behavior?

Yes we also see the same misbehaviour when searching. We have yet upgraded 6 of our Outlook installations to the newest and ALL Outlook shows the same thing. The selection JUMPS up to the top row almost intermittently after selecting a search result further down. Now a couple of users have gone back to Outlook 2011 since this bug is terrible annoying, at least for those searching a lot.

We have also tried rebuilding the index in Spotlight including deleting the sync prefs but without luck.

Does anybody know how to make sure the Microsoft Outlook team is aware of the issue?

The only way seem to be the one-way communication trough the "Smile-button". It is not included in this list:

However that list is probably not updated.

I tried downloading and installing the update that was made available today, but Outlook 2015 is still Version 15.3 build 141024 and the problem still exists.

we're also waiting, and waiting.

Another annoying jumping behaviour is when you sort the list by flagged emails, and select the first with red flag, then it jumps away and the second gets selected. An equally irritating issue.
