Yes - it seems to be spotlight. I disabled mail&messages and Reminders in Spotlight-Configuration. Now Outlook 2011 seems to be working without freeze.

edit: it worked just for a view minutes - now outlooks freezes immediately after the start.

Taking it a step further seemed to fix the problem for me.     I had to disable Contacts as well.      The settings below seem to be working OK with Beta 7 and Outlook 2011 14.5.3.

Even with the release of 10.11 El Capitan GM, the issue still persists. Why isn't this being addressed by Apple or Microsoft?!

Because Microsoft wants you to subscribe to Office 365 and use Office 2016.

If you are an El Capitan tester you should be telling Apple about the incompatibilities using the channels you were given when you installed the beta test of the operating system.
I do not work for Microsoft. If you get a good answer, consider answering a question in return.

True, but Apple and MS should by now be well aware of this and be able to focus attention on a fix, this has been reported widely and today after upgrading to the production release of El Capitan I am also experiencing the exact same problems with Outlook 2011 - crashing every time on start or in a minute or so.  Every single time.  Not cool.

I just updated to 10.11 El Capitan and have the same problem.  The program (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) appears to launch, indicates in the launch splash box that it is loading the font menu, etc. then crashes.  I'd like to think that somebody at Microsoft or Apple cares about this problem, or that it would have been obvious in testing, but apparently neither is correct.

Fortunately I have a Dell Laptop nearby, so I'm not about to panic, but it sure was slicker to have Office running on the Mac.

Any solutions appreciated.

How long as El Capitan been out? Hours? A couple days, maybe? It is an entirely new operating system. Expecting anything other than Apple apps to run in it immediately are unreasonable. For Pete's sake give developers a chance to adapt to the new operating system.
