5.1.2 or other punctuation after the recipient's e-mail address

I use Office for  Mac 2011 on an iMac.  I recently started getting an error message after every send/receive cycle.  After checking I sees that it occurs regardless of whether or not I manually initiate the send/receive or if it on the automatic cycle (every hour).

The message reads:  5.1.2 or other punctuation after the recipient's e-mail address.  It's followed by a series of numbers + letters, such as the last one which read p34sm3693839ann.43.  The message text is always the same, but the numbers/letters that follow it change each time.

I've searched over other forums to see if anyone else using a Mac and office for Mac 2011 has encountered the error but no success.  I haven't changed any of my e-mail settings.

Thank you for any assistance.

Answer
The 5.1.2 error code means that your server could not find the domain of one of your recipients when trying to send him a message. For example, if you are trying to send a message to *** Email address is removed for privacy *** then your server cannot find the example.com domain.

You may have a message stuck in your Outbox. Open it and verify that you have the correct email address for the recipient. Retype it if needed to ensure you're not including any extra spaces or invisible characters.

The part of the error message that contains the numbers and letters is not an Outlook for Mac error code. Instead, Outlook is passing the error message it received from the server to you.

Hope this helps!
