I keep getting an empty file in trash at startup called MerpAD Office365.

Martin3949 asked on
This file has started showing up at start up after installing 14.3.2. update and I have not used Office 365. Any ideas how can I stop this, please?  It is so frustrating.

I found that if you disable Office error reporting the recovered files folder will stop to appear in the trash at each start. Here's the procedure:

1. Open application Office error reporting, the application is located in this folder

      /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MERP2.0

2. Go in preferences

3. Uncheck enable office error reporting

I could only find a similar question where the suggestion was to completely uninstall office 2011 and reinstall it. So you could try that as well.

Do not install the 14.3 series of updates and then verify if the problem continues.

I have tried that and without the 14.3.2 update the problem does not occur, as soon as this update is installed the problem re-occurs.

I guess you would have to wait till the next update is rolled out.

This is happening to me as well.  I keep finding a folder called <Recovered Files> in my trash and within that folder is "MerpAD Office365".  I had a Microsoft Office Tech via chat completely manually uninstall and then re-install Office 2011 on my machine (for another problem with WORD) and this problem persists.  I know the file and folder are "empty" but WHY are they showing up in my trash and HOW can it be stopped?  I've seen this topic on several other threads in this Microsoft Community, going back to at least 2011 and it appears as though Microsoft is just ignoring the issue.  This bug is something they should fix. I agree with SaschaTieke and Otto Kwan, this needs to be fixed and not just disregarded.  Microsoft - are you listening?

Other threads complaining about this issue:

Thanks. This solved my problem. I needed to restart twice to see the change.
Microsoft will not get any error reporting from me any more. ;-)

I want to thank you for posting this simple solution. It saved me days of searching. Apple support communities has no postings that actually answer this problem. They just socialize about how stupid apple is.
