Opening .one files on OneNote for mac

GrahamVickery asked on

I would like to try and open some old '.one' files on my mac. They were created using Microsoft OneNote on an old windows machine (now dead). I have recently downloaded the new OneNote software for Mac and uploaded these '.one' files to my OneDrive account. Neither the downloaded OneNote or OneNote online seems to be able to open these files.

Is there anyway to view these files on my mac?

Unlike other office applications, you cannot directly upload *.one file to onedrive and open them from different devices.

Onenote files needs to be synced from Onenote 2010\2013 PC application only.

Hi Graham,

Mac OneNote doesn't allow you to open up local OneNote files, we only work with files stored on OneDrive.

Here is a help article on how to get those files uploaded to OneDrive, so that you can access them in Mac OneNote.

Thanks,

Thank you very much for this! Unfortunately this solution requires possession of OneNote for PC to synchronise the files appropriately...

How does the OneNote team recommend transferring files produced in OneNote 2007 (before OneNote had the functionality to directly upload/sync with SkyDrive/OneDrive)? It is unclear from the help article Chris references in this thread how to upload files from the earlier 2007 version of OneNote to the OneDrive to be viewed on OneNote for Mac. Uploading local .one files to the OneDrive, as several others have pointed out, does not work.

Thanks in advance for your reply!

The referred article does not say ANYTHING about Mac version of OneNote - it only talks about Windows versions. Original question still remains unanswered - HOW can one open and use *.one files in OneNote for Mac? I have those files in my OneDrive - OneNote app for Mac just does not recognize them.
