How do I add an Office 365 account in OneNote for Mac?

CorkChop asked on

Is it possible to use an Office 365 account with OneNote for Mac?  I try adding the account by:

  • Click OneNote from Menu
  • Select Accounts > Add Account...
  • Sign in window appears
  • Enter in my Office365 user name and password which I know is correct

I receive the following error message:

The email address or password is incorrect. Please try again.

The help file says:

Can I open a notebook on a SharePoint site?

No, you can’t open a notebook on a SharePoint site with this version of OneNote for Mac. You can only open and edit notebooks on OneDrive.

This is probably a temporary situation. Even the iOS versions can open a SharePoint or O365 notebook.

I just spent about 2 hours with MS Tech Support with exactly this issue. The blogs in internet mention some "extras" in OneNote (like added storage space and so) if you're a Office365 subscriber.. and nothing, they even made me uninstall all of my Office 365 previous install (a real nightmare, by the way) and reinstall again it to see if that works.. of course it didn't, it doesn't have nothing to do with this problem... (sighs).

Anyway.. the big question remains.. what is the benefit (strictly regarding the so called OneNote "extras") of logging into OneNote with my 365 account vs. my regular hotmail account..?

does anyone know this? please...!

the benefit is which cloud storage service you have access to. Many folks have their own skydrive/one drive as well as a corporate skydrive pro/onedrive for biz cloud to store docs and files in.  If you dont have or want a personal account you should be able to sign in with your corp credentials to access your corp cloud storage service as well as O365 teamsites. this works perfectly in the Windows version of all the 2013 O365 apps. We can only hope this integration is brought forward with the next version of Office for Mac. Even better would be an interim add-on to provide this connectivity until the next Office version is publicly available.

Same issues with my 365 E3.  Business users seem to be left out again...

I'm looking for the OneDrive for business rather than a SharePoint site.  Odd they support all the free stuff but not those that pay :(

OneDrive for business isn't available for the Mac yet either.
