This file is not in a recognizable format error message.

I get the error message , This file is not in a recognizable format. However the file extension is .xlsx and I have opened these files in the past. As far as I know nothing in my computer has changed. I have Excel 2003

If you really did open a .xlsx file in XL2003, and can't do it now, then you must have had a Helper Viewer utility installed at the time which is no longer functioning.

A Google search for ".xlsx viewer download" will return many hits such as this........
