Sum Match? Is there such a thing?

Hi

I'm stumped and sure could use some help if anyone can spare the time.

I have a set of values ($) and a total.  I need to figure out which combination of the values adds up to the specified total.

2249.22

2252.06

2284.97

2230.13

2199.06

2168.19

2183.83

2208.20

2267.30

2277.25

Total I seek:  11076.74

I tried the "solver" but clearly that's above my skill level.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Answer

Hi.  Sounds to me like you set up Solver correctly.   The method you really want is "Simplex LP"

That will be the fastest for this problem.  I got the correct solution immediately.

I'm not sure why it didn't do the same for you.

Make sure that the values in A1:A10 are values, and not the result of some calculation.

This will affect the accuracy.   If they are calculations, Round the solutions to 2 decimal places.

Due to machine precision and accuracy,  x = y may not flag true in Solver when it looks at a solution at machine precision.
